About Stacey Flegg
Stacey Flegg is the Head of Assault and Abuse Litigation at Winston Solicitors and has been helping victims and survivors of violent crime pursue compensation since 2013.
Over the past decade, Stacey has built a reputation for handling complex and highly sensitive cases with compassion, determination, and a strong commitment to achieving justice for her clients. She understands that many people seeking compensation have already been through difficult experiences and may feel uncertain about taking the next step. Her aim is to make the process as clear, supportive, and straightforward as possible.
Specialist Experience in Assault and Abuse Claims
Stacey advises on a wide range of assault and abuse compensation claims and has particular expertise in complex cases involving both physical and psychological injuries.
Her areas of experience include:
- Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) claims, including reviews and appeals where applications have been rejected or compensation awards do not fairly reflect the injuries suffered.
- Reopened and transferred claims, helping clients challenge previous settlements where new medical evidence has emerged or taking over existing claims to pursue a better outcome.
- Institutional abuse claims, including cases connected to Eastwood Park Detention Centre, Medomsley Detention Centre, the Historical Institutional Abuse Redress Scheme, and the Church of England Redress Scheme.
- Supporting survivors throughout sensitive claims by providing clear advice, practical guidance, and compassionate representation.
Stacey's Approach
Speaking about her work, Stacey says:
"I have been helping survivors of assault and abuse for over a decade. During that time, I have seen how often people feel unsupported and unheard throughout the criminal process. For many of our clients, coming to us is the first time they feel truly listened to. I believe survivors often need ongoing support after the criminal investigation has ended, and it is important that their story is heard in their own words. I bring compassion and understanding to every case, recognising that each client's circumstances are unique. While no amount of compensation can erase the impact of trauma, I am passionate about securing fair outcomes and challenging decisions where an award is unjust."
Notable Case Results
Stacey has successfully represented survivors in a wide range of complex cases, including childhood sexual abuse, domestic abuse, serious assaults, and claims involving life-changing injuries.
In one case, she acted for a client who suffered a severe brain injury following a physical assault. Managing the claim from beginning to end, Stacey secured compensation of almost £260,000, reflecting the client's ongoing care needs, loss of future earnings, and the long-term impact of the injury.
In another case involving childhood sexual abuse, Stacey successfully challenged the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority's decision to reject the claim on two separate occasions. Following a lengthy review and appeal process, she secured compensation of more than £150,000 for the survivor, despite the abuse having taken place more than 20 years earlier.
