Can AI Help You Claim Compensation After Abuse or Assault? What You Need to Know

Posted in Advice

When Can AI Help You?

If you have been abused or assaulted and are thinking about claiming compensation, you may have come across AI tools that say they can help. Chatbots, online forms and automated advice can seem like an easy way to get started, especially if you feel anxious, overwhelmed or unsure who to trust.

It is completely understandable to look for quiet, private help. But when it comes to abuse or assault compensation claims, relying on AI alone can put your claim at risk.

Why AI Can Feel Appealing

AI tools promise quick answers. You can ask questions at any time and get an instant response. For survivors, this can feel safer than talking to a person, especially if what happened is difficult to talk about.

Some tools say they can help you fill in claim forms, explain the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme, or tell you whether you are eligible. On the surface, this sounds helpful.

The problem is that abuse and assault claims are not simple, and mistakes made early on can be very hard to fix later.

The Risks of Using AI for Your Claim

AI does not understand trauma. It doesn’t know how abuse affects memory, confidence or mental health. It also does not understand how strict the CICA rules are, or how small wording changes can affect decisions.

We have seen people lose out on compensation because they trusted AI advice that was wrong or incomplete.

Here are some of the biggest risks:

  • Giving answers that accidentally conflict with police or medical records
  • Missing important information that could support your claim
  • Using wording that downplays the impact of what happened to you
  • Submitting forms without understanding exceptions that may apply to you

Once something is sent to the CICA, it becomes part of your record. Changing it later can be very difficult.

Evidence Is Not Just Paperwork

AI might tell you what evidence you need, but it cannot tell you how that evidence will be used. It cannot spot problems or explain how to deal with gaps in records.

It also cannot support you emotionally while you gather very personal documents, such as counselling notes or medical records. This process can be upsetting, and no one should have to go through it alone.

You Deserve Human Support

Abuse and assault claims are not just legal processes. They are deeply personal. Survivors often need reassurance, patience and understanding, not just information.

A real person can listen to you, explain things in plain language, and make sure your claim reflects what you have been through. They can also challenge decisions if something goes wrong.

AI can’t do that.

Technology Is Not a Replacement for Care

AI can sometimes help with basic information, but it should never replace proper legal advice for abuse or assault compensation claims. The stakes are too high, and the process is too sensitive.

If you are thinking about making a claim, or if you have already used an AI tool and are unsure whether it gave you the right advice, getting help from an experienced team can make all the difference.

We understand how hard it can be to take this step. You will be treated with respect, care and compassion at every stage. Your story matters, and it deserves to be handled by people who genuinely understand.
